Joe Wood Jr., son of Smokey Joe, pitched a no-hit, no-run game against the Albany Senators; 5-to-0 at Scranton, Pa. Wood’s father got to watch his son’s preformance. The elder Wood also pitched a no-hitter by the same score, 30 years ago (almost to the day)when the Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Browns.
Joe Wood, Jr. is a graduate of Yale and a former captain of their baseball team. He had a brief career with the Boston Red Sox, pitching in 3 games and losing one in 1944. He never again pitched in the Big Leagues.
